"John Wick Chapter 4" doesn’t justify its length, but it presents the best cinematography and production design of the franchise. Up until now, my issue with the overarching story was that the emotional component got lost over time. It went from being a revenge story to a simple “I’ll try to not get killed” story. No, the title character doesn’t have a new motivation in this sequel, but there's more emphasis on the history he shares with certain characters and also on the way all these assassins prioritize honor over what they want, which is why there are more dramatic scenes that work. Is this installment better or worse than "John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum" when it comes to the ridiculousness? It’s hard to say. On the one hand, the moments that cross the line of believability are fewer, because the first two thirds of the running time contain brief time jumps. That makes it easier for me to believe that John can recover from his injuries. On the other hand, the aforementioned moments are dumber and harder to forget. The last third is when John and a couple of his enemies practically become immortal. Not to mention a scene that takes place at a roundabout on a touristic location. All the vehicles keep going as if nothing were going on! Is that a form of satire? Nah, that would be giving the movie too much credit.
