Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!

Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!

The Mario Bros. get sucked into their Famicom game, and must now rescue Princess Peach from King Bowser Koopa.

Filling the running time of a movie with montages in order to hide how thin the plot is? That's a big no-no. And "スーパーマリオブラザーズ ピーチ姫救出大作戦! ( Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!)" it's worse than usual. The montages repeat footage of the heroic duo travelling through the Mushroom Kingdom while the same songs are played over and over. As far as animes go, the animation quality of this one is on the level of a TV series from the 1960s as opposed to a theatrically-released movie from the 1980s. Mami Yamase's performance is weak and King Koopa a.k.a. Bowser (the villain) is given a personality and a voice that make him seem like a dweeb. That wouldn't be an issue if there were jokes about that, but the movie still tries to portray him as a real threat. Also, the plot twist near the end and the post-credits scene are idiotic!
