Danyka: Mar de Fondo
A day at a Mexican beach where a married writer meets a teenager.
Review
"Danyka: Mar de Fondo" tells a story involving a middle-aged married man (Armando) and a teenager (the title character) that feels like a stretched-out short film. The two of them have lots of conversations and the dialogue isn't really bad... when you can hear it. Look, I know that not every Mexican project Demián Bichir gets involved in will automatically receive a big budget, but he's an Oscar-nominated actor whose resume includes Hollywood blockbusters. That has got to be enough to prevent a product with such horrendous audio quality! There's a scene in which Armando and Danyka talk about the possible existence of God and I noticed a bit of light moving quickly on the bottom right of the screen. Ah, it's symbolism! A way to indicate that He is in fact real! Oh, what's that? It was probably caused by a crew member's watch under the sunlight? Bummer...
