"Au Hasard Balthazar" treads the fine line between being a deep tale about the different ways (and the frequency) in which life can be sad and unfair... and being meandering tragedy porn. In the end, it leans more towards the former. Some of the performances are weak, but not bad. At least not to the point where they ruin the story.
