"Un Monde (Playground)" is a movie about school bullying, but who's the bully and who's the victim? What's the cause? Do the adults not notice what's going on? If they do, do they try to solve the issue with the best methods? If they don't, is it because they're well-intentioned yet oblivious or because they're jerks who don't know how to prioritize? Or because, whenever they ask questions about the subject, the kids keep the truth to themselves? The answers to each of these questions change depending on the scene. It's a complex and unpredictable story. It's a roller-coaster of emotions, although the ending feels a little rushed. It's the kind of movie where the camera focuses mainly on one actor/actress throughout the running time, since the plot is told exclusively from the protagonist's point of view. While I've seen children give good performances in the past, I don't remember the last time I saw a child carry a movie like Maya Vanderbeque does.
