Air
Follows the history of sports marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro, and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of basketball, Michael Jordan.
Review
Despite good performances and a few instances of witty humor, "Air" is a by-the-numbers sport business drama with an uninspired soundtrack, because the songs are the most obvious choices for a 1980s setting you could think of. Some of them don’t even match their respective scenes! Everything builds up to a meeting at Nike with Michael Jordan and his parents (Deloris & James). In fact, the scene was presented with all the techniques reserved for the climax of a plot... but no, the climax happens later. A lot later, actually, which made the movie feel longer. I don’t mind most of the changes to the true story. Hey, it’s a dramatization after all. However, I draw the line at turning David Falk (M.J.’s agent) into a sort-of antagonist. Not to mention that he’s portrayed as someone abrasive and Rob Strasser (Nike’s Marketing VP) is portrayed as someone level-headed, when it should be the other way around.
